People’s safety will be our first priority: Minister Deshpande

Ministers Deshpande, GT Devegowda visit flood-hit areas in Nanjangud; govt assures more relief to people

Mysuru, August 18:- Following grim situation in the Temple Town of Nanjangud, Revenue Minister R V Deshpande, along with officials, assessed the situation in the region on Saturday.

Deshpande, along with Higher Education Minister and Mysuru District In-charge Minister G T Devegowda, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, Varuna Constituency MLA Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Nanjangud MLA Harshavardhan, Superintendent of Police Amit Singh and other officials visited the flood-affected region and took stock of situation.

The ministers along with officials first visited the Mallanna Moole Mutt on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road which is inundated. Later, they visited the Mudikatte, Topina Beedi, Terina Beedi, Halladakeri, Saraswathi Colony, Hejjige Bridge, Bokkahalli, Kullankana Hundi and Suttur in Nanjangud taluk. They also visited relief centres at Girija Kalayana Mantapa and Dasoha Bhavan in Nanjangud town where the flood victims have been housed.

Deshpande took stock of the situation to carry out relief measures and plan accordingly to release funds to the flood-affected areas.

Speaking to reporters, Deshpande said, “People’s safety and rescuing them will be our first priority. There has been a flood-like situation in Nanjangud area and crops worth crores have been destroyed due to the flood. I have assessed the situation and will try to get more relief to the flood-affected areas.”

On Saturday too, the Kapila River in Najangud taluk was flowing above danger mark. The overflowing has continued to flood Mysuru- Ooty National Highway and the vehicular movement was halted even on Saturday. -(KS, KK)
