Youth stealing gold from devotees at Raghavendra Swami Mutt nabbed

Mysuru, January 13:- Mysuru City Krishnaraja Police has arrested a youth who was standing suspiciously in front of a house near Uttaradhi Mutt Road on January 4.

The arrested has been identified as Praveen Bhat, 29, of Vijayanagar, Bhadravati. During the inquiry, he confessed to stealing gold ornaments from the bags of devotees at Raghavendra Swami Mutt at Shankarapuram in Bengaluru, Kuvempunagar, Vidyaranyapuram, Krishnaraja and Jayalakshmipuram Police Station limits in Mysuru by visiting the mutt as a devotee. He allegedly stole valuables from houses by visiting saying he was from Raghavendra Swami Mutt.

The police have recovered 27-gram gold ornaments, silver vessels, 2 cell phones and Rs 61,000 in cash from him.

The operation was carried out by police inspector L Srinivas, PSI Suneel, ASI Suresh, staffs Anil K Shankhapal, Mokaddar Sharif, Mahesh, Satish Kumar, Madhu and Ragini. (MR/KS)
