National Pharmacy Week celebrations were held at the JSS college of Pharmacy in the city on Wednesday.
An initiative of Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), ‘National Pharmacy Week’ to create awareness among the general public about the profession of pharmacy and the role it plays was held at the Rajendra Auditorium at JSS college of Pharmacy.
The programme held with the theme ‘Pharmacists for a healthy India; Role in prevention and management of diabetes’ reflected the important role of pharmacists in providing care to the public, and also to highlight the emotional connection they have with their patients.
President of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Mysuru chapter, Dr H Basavanagowdappa inaugurated the programme and spoke on the theme.
Dr B Suresh, President, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and Vice Chancellor of Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University spoke on importance of pharmacists in the healthcare system and empowerment of pharmacists.
On the occasion to recognize the contributions of pharmacists, Aushada Ratna Awards were presented for the first time in three different categories: Community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and academic pharmacy.
Aushada Rathna award was conferred to Narayana Raghavan for community pharmacy, P V Rajendra for academic pharmacy and Dr Gurumurthy Parthasarathi for outstanding contributions in the respective field of pharmacy.
