Mysuru, January 31:- Chief of Biodiversity Board Ananth Hegde Ashisara has said that a discussion has been held to announce Chamundi Hills as a biodiversity heritage centre.
He was speaking at a press meet held at the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office here on Thursday.
“A meeting has been held with district administration and Zilla Panchayat on behalf of the board. Actions to be taken to protect biodiversity at Chamundi Hills have been discussed. We will recommend a permanent ban on mining at Baby Hills to protect KRS Reservoir,” he said.
“Chamundi Hills village panchayat, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and district administration have to announce Chamundi Hills as a biodiversity heritage centre. We will get a report and take further action,” he said.
“An action plan to revive Lakshmana Theertha River has been discussed with the district administration. Action will be taken led by Hunsur Town Municipal Council. International Biodiversity Day will be observed on May 22, every year,” he added.
