Mysuru, September 27:- “Increased use of plastic is hazardous to human health. It causes thyroid, cancer, asthma, heart-related problems,” said the chief medical officer (CMO) of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Dr Jayanth.
He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ event to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi near Sterling Theatre, Vishweshwara Nagar, MCC Ward 62 in association with ITC – Wow and MCC on Thursday.
“Children should create awareness at home regarding the problems caused by one-time-use plastic,” he said.
“Cleanliness should be followed by each and everyone. ITC – Wow is creating awareness regarding cleanliness and impact of plastic at schools and colleges. We all have to work together to make Mysuru cleanest city again,” said human resources officer of ITC Mysuru, Raghuveer.
An awareness march regarding the problems and control of one- time use plastic was taken out from Sterling Theatre. Students of Maharshi PU College, volunteers of ITC – Wow, public, pourakarmikas and others were present. Street play on one-time-use plastic was staged.
Environment engineer Spoorthi, chief of ITC – Wow Mohan Siddi, principal of Maharshi PU College Mahadevaswamy, convener Shivaraju and others were present. (MR/GK)
