Mysuru, August 19:- Founder of Belaku, KM Nishanth has urged the state government to announce Mysuru Dasara as the official state festival. A letter with the signatures of the public was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar demanding further action.
The petition has been signed by titular king Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, president of the Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) Mahendra, editor of Andolana newspaper Ravi Koti, resident editor of Indian Express K Shivakumar, Girish of Udayavani newspaper, Prashanth of Travels Association, president of Hotel Owners’ Association Narayana Gowda, Yoga Association president Sri Hari, Dasharath of Namma Mysuru Foundation, historian Rangaraj and others.
“The state government took the initiative to observe Dasara celebration since 1974 after the demise of Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar. Even after 40 years, the festival has not been officially announced as Nada Habba. Mysuru Dasara has a big name in the world. Whoever may be the chief minister and whichever party may be at the helm, Dasara should be held,” Nishanth said.
He said that Dasara should be announced official Nada Habba and preparation have to be made throughout the year.
“Dasara should be held with fervour. Tourists should be attracted to the festival. As the festival is only 2 months away, holding meetings in a hurry can’t help. Dasara appears to be a fair restricted to Mysuru,” Nishanth said.
He opined that the event should be planned soon after the completion of Dasara for the next year. He opined that the festival requires almost a year of preparation to be held with fervour. He said that the success of Dasara can also result in the development of the hotel industry, transportation, tourism and other industries. (MR/KS)
