Prime News, National, Sport, Cricket, New Delhi, September 24:- Skipper Virat Kohli explained how the Yo-Yo test helped the Indian cricketers achieve high-level fitness when Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked him about the mandatory running aerobic fitness routine.
Prime Minister Modi was interacting with fitness experts and influencers from across the country to mark the one-year anniversary of the ‘Fit India Movement.’
Modi was keen to know what is Yo-Yo test and asked if the captain also has to pass it or he gets spared?
“I heard these days there is a yo yo test for the team, what is this test,” asked Modi.
Kohli, smiling, replied, “This Test was very important from fitness point of view. If we talk about global fitness level, our fitness level is still low compared to other teams and we want to take it up, which is a basic requirement.”
The gruelling routine has two sets of cones that are 20 metres apart. Once the beep is sounded, an athlete has to reach the marker on the other side by the time the next beep sounds, turn and get back to where he started before the third beep.
Modi also held interactions with actor Milind Soman, footballer Afshan Ashiq among others who shared their fitness experiences with him.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister wished all the countrymen good health and said that in one year, the Fit India Movement has become the movement of people.
He said there is an increasing awareness in the country about fitness and activities related to it, has also increased. He said today many countries of the world have set many goals regarding fitness and are working on them at many fronts. Many countries like Australia, Germany, United Kingdom and USA are running fitness campaigns on a large scale.
Modi said usually, parents teach us all good habits but for fitness, the trend has reversed a little and youngsters are taking the lead in helping their parents get a fit lifestyle.
The Prime Minister said yoga, posture, exercise, walking, running, healthy diet and swimming activities are now becoming the part of our nature conscious. He said the Fit India Movement has demonstrated its influence and relevance during COVID-19 period.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju said while launching the Fit India Movement last year, the Prime Minister had emphasised that it should become the movement of people. Now Fit India Movement is truly becoming people’s movement and in the past one year many programmes were organised which have taken the fitness to a new heights. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
