Mysuru, August 30:- That former minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader G T Devegowda has a soft corner for the Bharatiya Janata Party is nothing new. Despite facing criticism from his own party leaders time and again, Devegowda seems unperturbed. Apparently, he believes in doing what he thinks is right. Living true to the saying that they are no enemies in politics, Devegowda has continued his ‘support’ for the BJP.
The former minister grabbed attention again on Thursday when Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa was on a visit to the Chamundi Hills. He garlanded Yediyurappa who had come to the temple with a horde of ministers and supporters. Devegowda was present again when District in-charge Minister V Somanna visited the hill on Friday morning (August 30).
Somanna, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha and other BJP leaders were present at the hills when Devegowda joined them when the inspection of the ongoing works for the Dasara festivities was on.
Answering a question posed by a media person on his soft attitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that Modi is what the country needs now. “We have all seen the works of Modi. The nation needs such a Prime Minister. He is needed for the security of the country. Only the protection and development of the nation are important to Modi. The nation is first, rest is next is his mantra. He is doing a great job. Is it wrong to talk good about such a person?” he hit back at the media.
Devegowda, who was in BJP before switching sides, has been in the news for some time now. When the dissidence in the coalition government saw the downfall of H D Kumaraswamy, there were strong rumours that Devegowda may go back to his original party but it did not materialise. The recent developments are only adding fuel to the fire.
Speaking about the recent association with Yediyurappa, he said relished the old bonding the two share.(MR/KS)
