Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday questioned ‘inaction’ against the Karnataka minister, who during an Income Tax raid, was found to be in possession of assets worth Rs 150 crore.
Addressing an election meeting at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Modi said that the raids had unearthed Rs 150 crore worth of assets with the minister.
“Why has he not been apprehended till now…why has he not been removed?” the prime minister questioned.
Modi referred to the Karnataka minister, without naming him, while making reference to demonetisation.
The prime minister was apparently referring to the recent income tax raids on the house of Karnataka Small Scale Industries Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi at Gokak in Belagavi district.
The Income Tax department had detected undisclosed assets worth over Rs 162 crore and seized Rs 41 lakh cash, besides over a dozen kg in gold and jewellery during searches on the premises of Jarkiholi and Karnataka Mahila Congress president Laxmi R Hebbalkar.
