Mysuru, December 01:-Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the Mysuru-Bengaluru double railway line, electrification and mechanisation soon.
The long pending electrification of track between Mysuru and Bengaluru which recently got the green signal by the Railway Safety (Southern Circle) Commissioner K A Manoharan, after conducting inspection of electrification of track between Mysuru and Bengaluru has been due for the formal inauguration.
The Railway authority had earlier scheduled to officially inaugurate the double rail line and electrification on December 26, 2017 and it was postponed due to various reasons.
According to sources, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was invited to inaugurate 139-km electric rail line between Mysuru and Bengaluru, but it was later cancelled as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen to be present during the inaugural ceremony.
On, Sunday Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha took to his twitter handle and confirmed that Prime Minister Modi will be part of the inauguration ceremony. Pratap Simha tweeted, “Our beloved PM @narendramodi ji will inaugurate the completion of Mys-Blr double tracking, electrification, and mechanisation. @PiyushGoyal ji may also give us a intercity DEMU train!”
However, the date of the inauguration or the venue is not confirmed yet and the railway authorities are still in talks with the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) to choose the venue and date. Sources said that PM Modi is expected to visit Benglauru during January second week and the railway authorities are keen to host the event during that time.
The electrified double track between the two cities was completed at a cost of nearly Rs 210 crore and once the electric train is operational, the travel time between Mysuru and Bengaluru will come down by 15 minutes and would save upto Rs 10 lakh per day and a total of Rs 36 crore per year.
In the meanwhile, according to political circles in state, PM Modi’s visit to Karnataka to launch the double rail line is considered to boost Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) chances in the 2018 Assembly polls in the state.
Intercity DEMU train
Lok Sabha member Simha in his twitter has also hinted that Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal may sanction a diesel–electric multiple unit (DEMU) intercity train to Mysuru. This would help the commuters as the pick up speed is faster in electric locomotive compared to diesel locomotives. If DEMU trains are introduced it will be easier to stop train comparatively.
