Mysuru, December 27:- Former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader AH Vishwanath has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold an all-party meeting to clarify over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
He was speaking at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club on Thursday.
“Chief ministers of several states are leading the protests against CAA. Some parties are misleading Muslim community in the name of protests. All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi too got the Indian citizenship in 1979. Congress leaders didn’t take part in the Parliament session during the discussion of the Act. Progressive thinkers should have made people understand the Act when an Act of such importance is being implemented. But some are using it for their political gains. People are being provoked to indulge in violence against it. It has caused worry among the Muslim community. Muslim religious leaders and thinkers have to make the community understand that the Act is not harmful to Muslims. The community now needs a healing touch and not provocation. I request former chief ministers HD Kumaraswamy and Siddaramaiah. Both of them were chief ministers to be careful in their moves. Power is not permanent. Those who have lost power should be tolerant. Central government should also hold an all-party meeting,” he added.
“CAA is important for the country. There is nothing new in it. It was thought during the time of former Prime Ministers late Jawaharlal Nehru and late Indira Gandhi. It has continued during the Modi regime as well,” he said.
