Police swoop down on money doubling gang; gangster killed in shootout

Mysuru, May 16:- A gang of money doubling racket from Mumbai has been active in the city. After being alerted about the activities of the gang, city police carried out a raid on Thursday. Of the three members, one gangster, who tried to attack the police was killed in the police firing. Though he was rushed to KR Hospital for treatment, he died a little while later.

A couple of days back, Vijayanagar Police Inspector Vijay Kumar was alerted about the money doubling gang. After making initial preparations, he, along with his men, raided an apartment in Hebbal near Outer Ring Road. Three members of the gang took to their heels as soon as they saw the police. One of them was apprehended by the police.

In the drama that ensued, the gangster tried to attack the team of policemen. In retaliation, the police fired at the gangster, leaving him bleeding profusely. He was immediately taken to KR Hospital emergency care unit where he died due to excessive bleeding. Details of the gang members and whereabouts of the man who was killed in the melee is yet to be ascertained.
