Polls to APMCs peaceful; voter turnout poor

The voting for elections to the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees (APMC) was overall peaceful across the district, but the voter turnout was very poor.

The elections that were held for farmers and traders constituencies in  Mysuru, Nanjangud, T Narasipur, Hunsur, KR Nagar, Periyapatna and HD Kote APMCs saw a good footfall on Monday morning, but later in the afternoon, members who had been allowed to cast their vote didn’t turn out to cast their vote.  

In Mysuru, 40.60 percent of the voters exercised their franchise where only 41,002 voters cast their votes among a total of 1, 00,999 voters. In HD Kote taluk, with 72,182 voters and 25,170 casting their votes, registered 35.63 percent voting.  In Nanjangud, only 23.4 percent voters exercised their franchise. In Periyapatna taluk, the voting was held for 11 posts of the farmers’ constituency and in T Narasipur, 26.33 percent of voters turned up at the polling centres.

Vote counting

The counting of votes will be taken up on Wednesday morning (tomorrow) at taluk headquarters where two tables each for farmers and traders constituency have been allotted for counting. The counting of votes for Mysuru taluk will take place at the Government Pre-university College for Girls in People’s Park and the results are expected to be out by Wednesday evening.
