Polluted water kills two from Chamarajanagar

Two people who had consumed polluted water in Chamarajanagar died in the city. They had been admitted to the K R Hos­pital a week ago.

The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old Kencha Shetty and 40-year-old Chikkathayamma from Kotegowdanahundi in Chamarajanagar.

While Kencha Shetty died on Tuesday evening, Chikkathayamma died on Wednesday morning. Kencha Shetty is a farmer while Chikkathayamma worked as an assistant in an Anganwadi.

According to hospi­tal sources, five persons were admitted to the hospital a week ago and all of them had taken ill after consuming polluted water. The condition of Kencha Shetty and Chik­kathayamma had dete­riorated.

Their relatives said that sewage water got mixed into drinking water that was supplied to their houses. A team of health officers are visiting the village to check the pollu­tion source. Alternatively, water is being supplied through tankers.

The condition of the other three persons are said to be stable.
