Two people who had consumed polluted water in Chamarajanagar died in the city. They had been admitted to the K R Hospital a week ago.
The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old Kencha Shetty and 40-year-old Chikkathayamma from Kotegowdanahundi in Chamarajanagar.
While Kencha Shetty died on Tuesday evening, Chikkathayamma died on Wednesday morning. Kencha Shetty is a farmer while Chikkathayamma worked as an assistant in an Anganwadi.
According to hospital sources, five persons were admitted to the hospital a week ago and all of them had taken ill after consuming polluted water. The condition of Kencha Shetty and Chikkathayamma had deteriorated.
Their relatives said that sewage water got mixed into drinking water that was supplied to their houses. A team of health officers are visiting the village to check the pollution source. Alternatively, water is being supplied through tankers.
The condition of the other three persons are said to be stable.
