Mysuru, September 25:- Mysuru is the hotbed for art, culture and literature. The then Maharajas of Mysuru supported art and culture in uncertain terms. But of late, doubts are cast over the depleting literature lovers in the city. If the poor response to Dasara book is any indication, it maybe true.
Though the Dasara food festival and flower show received a overwhelming response from the public, the same can’t be said about the book fair. The fair has got books for all tastes and all age groups, but there are no takers.
One of the book stall owners said that with the influence of Whatsapp and Facebook, youths have forgotten books. The number of visitors to the book fair has also come down drastically, he said.
Several stall owners expect people will come in more numbers as the book fair will be on September 30. Social media’s negative influence on reading habits of the younger generation seems to have hit the book fair badly. (MR/SH).
