Mysuru, September 24:- Bheru Foundation had organised Pourakarmika Day near Jaganmohan Palace here on Thursday (September 25). To mark the occasion, 500 face masks were distributed to the pourakarmikas to create awareness on keeping good health.
Speaking on the occasion, health officer Rajeshwari said, “Despite the prevailing tough conditions because of the coronavirus pandemic, pourakarmikas have been trying hard to keep the city clean. Their service is invaluable. They are the true warriors. Employees of many organisations could not come out during the lockdown period, but pourakarmikas took it as a challenge to render their services. We should recognise their work.”
She added, “Pourakarmikas are real unsung heroes who don’t want to make their presence felt despite their invaluable service to society. It is our duty to give them due recognition.”
Bheru Foundation president Madhu N said, “The ignorance on our part in urban and rural areas is directly responsible for the spread of coronavirus. The negligent attitude is leading to deaths among political leaders and officials of the government offices. Everyone should wear a mask whenever they come out. The fact that people are trying to wean away from the government guidelines is worrisome. More importantly, pourakarmikas who come in contact with the people more often should be careful.”
Nagendra, Harish and others were present. (MR/KS)
