Pramoda Devi Wadiyar opposes demand for separate North Karnataka state

All Kannadigas should work for development of the state, says Pramoda Devi Wadiyar

Mysuru, July 31:- Rajamathe Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, wife of late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, on Tuesday opposed the demand for a separate state for North Karnataka region.

Speaking to media persons here, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said the demand for a separate statehood for North Karnataka region is not feasible.

She said that she wants a united Karnataka and not the division of the state.

Pramoda Devi Wadiyar further said that the country will split if states go on dividing. She urged the people of Karnataka to stay united and work for the progress of the state.

Meanwhile, in Mysuru the Kannada organisations staged a protest against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sriramulu for supporting the demand for a separate statehood for North Karnataka and demanded that he should be externed from Mysuru District.

The protesters, who assembled at Gun House in Fort Mohalla, raised slogans against the MLA.

In a related note, the seers from different mutts gathered in Belagavi’s Suvarna Soudha to press for the development of the state attended by BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa.

The supporters who have been demanding for a separate state attempted to barge into the meeting and tried to unfurl the flag of a separate state. They had a heated argument with seers and were taken into custody by the police.

With regard to the new Kannada movie titled ‘Odeyar’ starring actor Darshan, Pramodi Devi Wadiyar said that she has no objection to the title ‘Odeyar,’ but asserted that the movie should not have any reference to the Mysuru royal family.

She said the name ‘Wodeyar’ has came from our ancestors and hence, don’t wish the name to be highlighted in a movie.
