Mysuru, June 28:- Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha on Tuesday extended support to Pejavar seer, Vishvesha Teertha, for hosting Iftar party to 100 members from Muslim community at Udupi Krishna mutt on Saturday. Taking to Facebook and Twitter, Simha saw nothing objectionable in seer hosting the meal and said no one can question swami’s integrity.
The 85-year-old seer’s move has stirred a hornet’s nest what with many radical elements saying it was not in right taste. Sri Ram Sene president Pramod Mutalik is in the forefront of the protest, saying his organisation will resist such actions.
There is a mixed reaction from most quarters. Many BJP leaders including Jagadish Shettar, Sadananda Gowda and Shobha Karandlaje on Tuesday expressed views. While Shettar and Gowda saw nothing in seer’s gesture, Karandlaje looked a bit upset.
Considering seer’s rich history, nothing much should be attached to his hosting Iftar. There is no denying the fact that it was a noble gesture. In his reaction, minister U T Khader welcomed seer’s gesture and said it was a much-needed action in a place like Mangaluru which was prone to communal clashes. (MR/SN).
