Political News, State, (Bengaluru), July 2: Former minister and senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar took over charge as the 41st president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) at a mega virtual rally held at the auditorium of KPCC office on Queens Road here on Thursday (July 2).
Veteran party leader, Shivakumar, officially took the oath of office at a critical phase of the Congress party and the state politics, and also at a time when the country is grappling with emergency health situation.
The installation ceremony was organised with the concepts of the new vision, new vigour, and modern Karnataka. Immediate past president of the KPCC, Dinesh Gundu Rao handed over the responsibility to the new team of office bearers led by Shivakumar.
Lakhs of people witnessed the ceremony on LED screens which had been installed in over 7,800 centres all across the state, and live beaming of the programme on over a hundred Facebook live accounts through the zoom conference app.
Though Shivakumar, 58, was appointed on March 11, he could not take charge since then, due to the lockdown.
