Mysore University VC Professor K S Rangappa, is suspended by Governor Vajubhai R Vala based on reports of alleged irregularities at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). However, official confirmation will be out today.
Taking serious note of the alleged irregularities at KSOU, Vajubhai Vala on Friday has directed the suspension of Prof Rangappa as per the sources from Governor’s office. The order was issued on Friday night.
Recently, an FIR was registered by the Jayalakshmipuram police against the former Vice-Chancellors of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), K S Rangappa and M G Krishnan, and seven others after KSOU officials lodged a complaint following directions from Governor Vajubhai Vala.
The complaint was based on the findings of audit reports of 2012–13 and 2013–14 pertaining to, among other things, purchase of computers by the university in violation of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements Act and violation of the memorandum of understanding the university had entered into with a Mumbai-based Information Technology company.
It may be recalled that on Friday students of Mysore University under various banners Dalith Vidhyarthi Vokkuta, Save University Committee and other organisation had called for Bandh and had threatened to take out an indefinite strike, if action is not taken against Rangappa by Monday.
