About 40 progressive farmers who have achieved in agriculture and farming sector were felicitated at the valedictory function of Agro-Tech Exhibition ‘Raitha Sanjeeveni Programme’, organised by Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association here on Sunday. This apart, as many as 40 widows of farmers were given away a cheque of Rs 20,000 each.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA S R Mahesh said that with the state reeling under severe drought the problems of farmers have worsened.
“Villagers are not getting water to drink and if the same situation continues, we have to face more problems,” he said.
Mayor B L Bhyrappa requested farmers not to end their lives, and asked them to host simple marriages and respect their job. Dignity of labour is important and every farmer has to inculcate a positive attitude.
Farmers instead of feeling inferior should be proud of their occupation, he noted.
Progressive farmer Kalmalli Shivakumar, on the occasion said: “Agriculture offers immense possibilities. However, farmers have to adopt latest technology, disciplined in their work which in turn would yield better crops.”
He further urged the farmers to market their produce well.
