Progressive thinkers celebrate Mahisha Dasara in Mysuru

Mysuru, October 15:- Amidst elaborate police security, Mahisha Dasara was celebrated at Dr Ambedkar Park at Ashokapuram in the city on Thursday (October 15). The progressive thinkers garlanded the portrait of Mahisha, the demon god.

Former mayor Purushotham, Gnanaprakash Swamiji, Siddaramu and Prof Mahesh Chandra Guru took part in the simple function. The police had not given permission for any sort of procession.

“The district administration has banned the entry of the public to Chamundi Hills and in this backdrop, Mahisha Dasara was organised at Dr Ambedkar Park. We have been offering puja to Mahisha at Chamundi Hills since 2014. As the entry to Chamundi Hills has been banned,  we were forced to do it in the city.  We see politics behind this move and we will soon approach the court of law. Our faith has been disturbed,” said Purushotham.”

He added, “We never requested the police to give us protection and they should do so for those who want it. You seem to forgive those who try to demean you. I still remember what happened during last year’s Mahisha Dasara.”

Talking on the occasion, Jnanaprakash Swamiji said, “We want to know why there is a ban on entry to Chamundi Hills? Are they following untouchability? We will file atrocity case against the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri and Commissioner of Police Dr Chandragupta.  Around 300 people are allowed to congregate during Dasara and why did they stop us? We approached the DC twice but we were never called for any discussion. On earlier occasions, we were allowed to celebrate Mahisha Dasara, but not this time. Rohini Sindhuri must give a clarification.” (MR/KS)
