Protection sought for sandalwood trees

Mysuru, December 6:- Aravinda Sharma of Samagra Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has alleged that the Mysuru City Corporation is forced by Yadavagiri Kshemabhivrudhi Sangha to construct a library at a plot belonging to the MCC at Yadavagiri, where there is a grove of 40-60 sandalwood trees. He said that the MCC officials have instructed a private tender holder to cut down the trees. He urged the authorities to protect the trees and not to chop them.

“They have illegally removed 3-4 sandalwood trees. The library cannot be constructed here. Water recycling pipe goes through this land. Action should be taken against this. Forest department and police department should fence this land,” he added.

Human rights activist Sikrim Prasanna, Bhanu Mohan of Parisara Samrakshana Samiti and others were present. (MR/KS).
