Mysuru, June 24:- Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene staged a protest in front of the offices of all MLAs of the district on Wednesday, urging them to oppose the proposed Land Reforms Act amendment of state government.
The protest was held in front of the offices of MLAs G T Devegowda, L Nagendra, Dr Yatindra Siddaramaiah, S A Ramadass, B Harshavardhan and Sa Ra Mahesh.
“Any amendment to Karnataka Land Reforms Act of 1961 by the state government should be opposed. Revenue Minister R Ashoka has proposed the removal of columns 79 ABC, 63 and 80. Any amendment to the Act should be pro-people and pro-farmer. Any amendment should be discussed length and breadth. The reasons given by the government for the amendment are all silly. This amendment will make sure that small farmers will lose their land. They will have to go in search of jobs. This will also impact food security in India. We will have to beg for food. Genetically modified seeds will be used in agriculture and will kill our food culture. Monoculture agriculture by corporate companies will destroy our agriculture,” they said.
Farmers staged a protest in front of the office of Mahesh in the city. The MLA assured the farmers of extending support to their protests.
Ashwatha Narayana Raje Urs, HC Lokesh Raje Urs, Saraguru Nataraj, Hosuru Kumar, Hosakote Basavaraj, Netravati, Marankaiah, Prabhakar, Naganahalli Vijayendra and others were present. (MR/KS)
