Mysuru, December 3:- Pathi Foundation and Prajnavantha Nagarika Vedike staged a silent protest at Agrahara Circle here on Tuesday morning, condemning the rape and murder of Hyderabad veterinarian Dr Priyanka Reddy last week.
“Women empowerment is the need of the hour. They have to get equal opportunities. But above all, they should get protection outside their family. The rape and brutal murder of Dr Priyanka Reddy is an unbelievable and unacceptable tragedy. The culprits should be given severe punishment so that no one else thinks of such heinous act,” said District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Dr YD Rajanna.
“Rapists should get a death sentence. This incident has come as a shocker for civilians. Women are unable to move around freely in society. The statement of Telangana Home Minister shows his cheap mentality. He must be punished for speaking about the character of the deceased woman. A quick trial should be held in this issue and the murderers should be hanged immediately,” said the president of the Hotel Owners’ Association, Narayana Gowda.
Former corporator MD Parthasarathy, Vikram Iyengar, Apurva Suresh, Kadakola Jagadish, Kumar Gowda, Rakesh Bhat, Anand, Manjunath, Madhu, Chakrapani, and others were present. (MR/KS)
