Protest demanding Ramanuja Jayanti

Mysuru, May 8:- Ramanuja Sahasramanothsava Samithi staged a protest on Wednesday, urging the state government to celebrate Ramanuja Jayanti on the lines of Sankaracharya Jayanti. The protesters were protesting near Rama Mandir at Krishnamurthypuram in the city. They shouted slogans against the state government, alleging it has neglected Ramanujacharya.

“Ramanujacharya gave mantra and samskara samashrayana to all 58 communities of Karnataka. He spread the glory of Karnataka throughout the world. He was the guide for the Vijayanagar empire. He constructed Tonnur Lake at Pandavapura to help thousands of farmers,” said seer Elai Alvar of Vengipura Mutt.

“He was guiding the Wadiyars of Mysuru. He founded Dasa heritage in Melukote. He looked after hundreds of temples in Tirupati, Melukote, Srirangam, Kanchipuram and other places,” he added.

“Former chief minister Siddaramaiah neglected 1000th birth anniversary of Ramanujacharya for reasons better known to him. The present Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy, set up Brahmin Welfare Board and decided to celebrate Sankaracharya Jayanti. On the same lines, Ramanuja Jayanti should also be celebrated.”

HG Giridhar, Puttaswamy, Vikram Iyengar, Rajagopal Iyengar, Kalkare Nagaraj, Yoganarasimha, Murali, and others were present. (MR/KS).
