Farmers stage protest, demand release of water to canals

Mysuru, February 6:- Union of Farmers’ Associations staged protest in front of CADA office here on Wednesday, demanding the release of water to canals of Cauvery and Kabini River basins.

The protesters shouted slogans against the administration for not releasing water for the crops. They urged the authorities to fill lakes by releasing water to canals for summer crops. They said that Kabini and KRS Reservoirs have enough water and said it should be properly utilised. They said that the farmers couldn’t grow crops well as excessive rains have washed away the crops in monsoon. They demanded the release of water to left and right bank canals, Rampura, Hullahalli Canals from Kabini and Ramaswamy, CDS, Raja Parameshwari, Virija, VC, Varuna Canals from KRS Dam.

They said that already more than the instructed amount of water has been released to Tamil Nadu and requested for a meeting of the Cauvery Water Advisory Committee and warned of intense protests if the water isn’t released.

Kuruburu Shanthakumar, Attahalli Devaraj, Krishnegowda, Parashivamurthy, Siddesh, Mahadevaswamy and others were present. (MR/KS)
