Rafale deal: Congress wants President to intervene

Mysuru, September 25:- Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) media in-charge M Lakshman has urged the President Ram Nath Kovind to intervene in Rafale fighter jets deal controversy and order an investigation.

Speaking at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club here on Tuesday, he alleged that the central government which should have maintained secrecy in the defence-related activities has directed Anil Ambani- owned Reliance Defense Limited to manufacture Rafale fighter jets.

“When A K Antony was the defence minister, a global tender was called to purchase 126 fighter jets. Six international companies attended the tender. A deal was made with Rafale at a cost of Rs 526 crore per jets and it was decided to buy 18 flights. Now the Modi government has made a deal to buy 36 jets at a cost of Rs 1670 crore perjet, which is a mere corruption,” he alleged.

“Rs 41,184 crore is being looted in the deal. Giving tender to Reliance Defense which was fairly new then and sidelining the experience of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a sheer insult. A thorough investigation has to be ordered into this,” he added.

“Why is the Prime Minister Narendra Modi not speaking anything about this? Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley are spreading lies,” he alleged. Laxman also alleged that keeping in mind the next Lok Sabha elections, Anil Ambani has given Rs 5 crore each to BJP Members of Parliament.

He challenged MP Pratap Simha who writes about everything on social media to write about Rafale deal as well.

Congress city president R Murthy, district president Dr B J Vijay Kumar, advocate Aravind, Rajesh, Sunil and others were present. (MR/KMR).
