Mysuru, April 13:-Congress president Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally in K R Nagar at 5.30 pm this evening.
Rahul will address the rally at Government PU College Ground in K R Nagar town and seek votes for coalition candidates Nikhil Kumaraswamy from Mandya and C H Vijayashankar from Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha Constituencies. Some of the top leaders from Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) are expected to join hands with Rahul Gandhi to show that all is well with the coalition.
Nilhil, son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, is contesting against actor-politician Sumalatha Ambareesh, who is contesting as an independent candidate, backed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Some rebel Congress leaders are also backing her candidature.
Rahul Gandhi will arrive at K R Nagar at 5.30 pm and address the Congress-JD(S) joint rally. He will depart from K R Nagar by road at 7 pm and reach Mandakalli Airport in Mysuru at 7.50 pm and leave the city at 8 pm.
Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to campaign in Chitradurga and Kolar on Saturday. In Kolar, Rahul Gandhi will campaign for Congress candidate K H Muniappa at 11.30 am and address a poll rally to seek votes for Congress candidate B N Chandrappa at Chitradurga at 1.30 pm.
Given the fact that Nikhil is going to find it tough to put it across Sumalatha, Congress and JD(S) are leaving no stone unturned to ensure their candidate’s victory. Veteran leaders from both the parties have been canvassing relentlessly in what is seen as a tough battle for supremacy.
Given her husband’s popularity in old Mysuru region, Sumalatha is confident of wooing voters. Not to forget, she has the support of a galaxy of stars. Rocking Star Yash and Challenging Star Darshan Tugudeep are spearheading the campaign on behalf of Sumalatha. Many disgruntled leaders from Congress and JD(S) are also backing Sumalatha’s candidature, while BJP, which has not fielded anyone from Mandya, is also extending support from outside. (NAV).
