Raids against public smoking yields Rs 87k

The Mysuru city police, in a special drive against smokers who smoke in public,  have registered a total of 871 cases and have collected a penalty of Rs 87,100.

City cops on January 31 and February 1 conducted the drive against smoking in public and booked those smoking under COTPA Act. According to a press release by Police Commissioner’s office, the offenders were fined under the COTPA act for not only people smoking in public but also the sale of tobacco products within 100 metres of educational institutions.
