Mysuru, August 19:- “Including religious centres, everything gets washed away in floods but caste system doesn’t,” said writer Prof Aravinda Malagatti.
He was speaking after releasing ‘Porake’ poetry collection by C Shankar Ankanashettipura at Maneyangala of Kalamandir here on Sunday.
“Caste system continues to bother our society. Rehabilitation centres based on castes were opened at several states. It shows the problem in the mindset of society. For caste is the symbol of pride and for some, a symbol of insult and humiliation. Pourakarmikas are living with pain even today,” he added.
“Broomstick is the symbol of cleanliness. Dalit and ‘bandaya revolution’ has used a broomstick as its logo,” he added.
“Those who do cleaning works throughout their lives never become Mahatma, but those who pose with broom become,” he added.
Writer Bannur K Raju, assistant director of Kannada and Culture Department H Chennappa, publisher DN Lokappa, former Mayor Narayana, KR Gopalakrishna, CM Narasimhamurthy, N Mara and others were present. (MR/KS)
