Mysuru, April 28:- To mark the 1004th birth anniversary of the philosopher Ramanujacharya, Mysuru Yuva Brahmins’ Vedike and Vivekanandanagar Brahmins Mahasabha jointly conferred the Ramanuja Award on the following achievers:
Yathiraj Sampath Kumar (theology ); K Raghuram Vajpai (co-operative sector); Dr Bhargavi Hemmige (media), Rajaram (social service); Murali (education) and G Harshavardhan (theology).
Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman H V Rajeev spoke about the contribution of Ramanujacharya towards an equal society, recalling how he initiated the astakari mantra ‘Om Namo Narayana Mantra’ to all communities, even though his Guru had advised him to keep it secret.
He also recalled Ramanujacharya’s contributions in Karnataka where he developed Melukote and the areas around it like Thonur Kere and so on.
Ilai Alwar Swamiji of Vengi Mutt, Mysuru District Brahmins Association president D T Prakash, former corporator Parthasarathi, Youth Congress leader N M Naveenkumar, M R Balakrishna, member, Brahmin Development Board; secretary Niranjan, Ajay Shastri and Vikram Iyengar from Mysuru Yuva Brahmin Yuva Vedike were present on the occasion.
