University of Mysore Vice Chancellor Prof K S Rangappa called for strengthening of academic, research activities in the UoM and urged the government to fill the vacant teaching posts.
Addressing a press meet here in the city on Monday, Prof Rangappa who is demitting the office on Tuesday, said that the varsity will become one of the top universities in the country if the academic and research activities are strengthened. He said “With good research practices and quality education, the varsity can become the number one university in the country. There is a need to strengthen the research activities in various fields and branches.”
“The political and bureaucratic interference will hamper the growth of varsity and UoM is no exception. The varsity authorities are not able to take legal action against those involved in irregularities as politicians and bureaucrats come to their rescue,” he added.
On allegations of irregularities against him, Prof Rangappa said he has used his influence for the development of the university and worked as per the norms of the Government and University Grants Commission (UGC).
Answering a query on whether he is interested in joining politics, Prof Rangappa said that a few people believe that he would join politics as he is a relative of H D Deve Gowda, but I am not interested in politics and I have not thought about it right now.
Prof Rangappa also announced that he has been appointed as Chief Scientific Advisor for China-based Sinotar Pharmaceutical (Shenzhen) Company and said he will be serving in the company from January 15, 2017 to February 14, 2020.
