Rebel MLAs resignation: Speaker moves SC, seeks more time to decide

Political News, State, (Bengaluru), July 11:-Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar today filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking more time to deal with the resignation issue of Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) rebel MLAs.

Supreme Court refused to give a hearing in the matter today. Supreme Court said, ‘In the morning we have fixed the matter for hearing tomorrow.’

The Speaker in his application said that he is unable to verify whether all the resignations are authentic and voluntary within the time limit stipulated by the Supreme Court. The SC has declined the Speaker’s plea to be heard on an urgent basis.

The Speaker further said in his petition to SC that “the Congress had given petition to disqualify two of its legislators and this is pending before me, I have to decide this too, so need some more time to decide the rebel MLAs resignations.”

The speaker in his petition also said that the Supreme Court cannot direct the Speaker to decide the fate of the rebel MLAs in a short span of time.
