Redefining talent

He is one multifaceted personality that one would love to write about. The more you write the more is left. Given his exploits in music and literature, people have started to talk in awe of Anush A Shetty, who has carved a niche as a man who allows his work to do the talking.

Born to a very encouraging parents Anand and Usha, Anush did most of his primary education at Hunsur.  His interest for literature and culture started blossoming when he was Talents High School.  The youngster never missed an opportunity to participate in interschool cultural and literary events.  With the steady support from his parents, Anush learnt mridangam from Vidwan H L Shivashankar Swamy.  To add to his repertoire, he joined ghatam and passed it with a second rank, while he passed juniors in mridangam alongside.  He joined the prestigious Maharaja College for under-graduation. Being a student of journalism, he started to write articles for various newspapers. His college created a huge platform for Anush to showcase his talent in music and literature.

The degree of his instrumental perfection helped him bag various awards in the inter-university competitions and was later selected for the south zone competitions. He got to interact with some of the famed musicians and people which helped Anush to a fusion musical band called Naavu. His biggest breakthrough in his musical journey came during the establishment of Naavu.  The team’s performance at various levels brought them lot of fame. A total of 16 songs were composed by the Naavu band which was performed at various fests and stages across the state which was well accepted.

Anush became part of a rhythm team called ‘Rhythm Adda’ along with three other artistes to show the pure essence of rhythm to the music lovers. They started to show the evolution of music using stone as a music instrument along with Nagari, Change and Kavaali. The team toured each and every important place in the state and put up stellar performances.

Though he loved music more, Anush never sidelined his interest in literature. A news item published 10 years acted as a catalyst for him to come with his first non-fiction novel.  An ardent follower of columnist Abdul Rasheed, Anush wrote his first non- fiction book ‘Aahuthi’. By the time he finished completing his novel, he had acquired all the skills of being a good writer.


Though he completed his first novel, he never got a supporting publisher which in turn made him and his friend Srivatsa to establish a new publication house named ‘Anugraha Prakashana’. With his own brand, Anush released his book Aahuthi which was very well received in the market. His vibrant and appealing writing helped him to create a fan base among his college and friends group. With the encouragement of his friends, Anush started a fiction novel ‘Kalbettada Darodekoraru’ which turned out to be a milestone in his career as a writer.

As a student of electronic media, he also got associated with various TV shows, reality shows and was part of many programmes including Weekend with Ramesh and others. Anush is now ready to release his third novel ‘Jodpala’, a fiction which revolves around a few creation of story set up in Western Ghats. Cine actor Ananth Nag has written foreword for Jodpala. At the age of 23, Anush has reached dizzy heights by penning three books. He has achieved a rare degree of success in music as well. To say he is an unparalleled artist in the field of music and literature is no exaggeration.
