Regional Commissioner to probe Dr Nagendra’s suicide-death

Mysuru RC is expected to submit the report to the state govt within a week

Mysuru, August 25:- Regional Commissioner G C Prakash has been asked to probe the suicide-death of Nanjangud Taluk Health Officer (THO) Dr S R Nagendra and submit a detailed report within a week to the state government. The Regional Commissioner who received the intimation on Monday evening (August 24) has already got down to business.

Following Dr Nagendra’s suicide on August 20, the then Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Prashanth Kumar Mishra faced public outcry and was accused of allegedly harassing the THO who took the extreme step last week. In fact, Dr Nagendra’s father Ramakrishna lodged a complaint at Alanahalli Police Station in Mysuru against Mishra and subsequently, an FIR was registered against him.

All eyes are on the case as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer has been accused of abetting a government’s doctor’s suicide. While the doctors are holding Mishra directly responsible for Dr Nagendra’s death, Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) staged a protest on Monday morning in support of Mishra. The official was transferred on last Saturday.

The PDOs want the state government to withdraw Mishra’s transfer order. On the other hand, the doctors, who have been promised justice in the case, have resumed work. (MR/BBC)
