Prime News, National, Dance, September 16:- Leading scholar of Indian classical dance, art, architecture and art history, Dr Kapila Vatsyayan passed away on Wednesday morning ( September 16) due to age related ailments at her residence here. She was 91.
She was a former Member of Parliament and also served as Secretary to the Government in the Ministry of Education, where she was responsible for the establishment of a large number of national institutions of higher education. Dr Vatsyayan served as the founding Director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr Kapila Vatsyayan was former president of India International Centre (IIC) and an IIC Life trustee and the chairperson of the IIC International Research Division.
She was married to noted Hindi writer Sachchidananda Vatsyayan, but their marriage survived for 13 years and got separated in 1969. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
