On Tuesday, General Secretary of KRRS Badagalapura Nagendra said that there were about one lakh families dependent on tobacco cultivation as it provided jobs to about 10 lakh people. Tobacco cultivation was largely depend-ent on monsoon and there was no sufficient alternative crops available for Virginia tobacco, he added.
The strict policy thus imposed on tobacco crop would threaten farmers, he added. Moreover, the government should protect the interest of farmers instead of focusing on imports.Members of the
