R Gundu Rao’s contribution to state immense: MK Somashekar

Prime News, Karnataka, Politics, Mysuru, September 27:- Gundu Rao Fans’ Association had organised former Chief Minister of Karnataka R Gundu Rao’s 84th birth anniversary at Kalamandir here on Monday (September 27).

Former MLA of Krishnaraja constituency M K Somashekar said, “Gundu Rao’s contribution to the state is immense. He went out of the way to help poor families and gave them government jobs. He encouraged them to live independently. It was he who set up the Pay Commission. He set up suburban bus stand next to the Railway Station.  Free power supply to villages and supply of Cauvery water to  Bengaluru are some of the programmes initiated by him.”

Social worker Dr K Raghuram Vajapayee said, “The iconic Kalamandir took shape because of Gundu Rao. He always wanted to spread the state’s culture. He advocated cultural centres at all district centres. Kalamandir should be named after Gundu Rao.”

Congress leader N M Naveen Kumar, Congress city president R Murthy, general secretary Shivanna, vice president Rajaram, former Mysuru City Corporation councillor M K Ashok, Shivamallu, Gundu Rao Abhimanaya Bala president Vinay Kanagal, C S Raghu, Chikkanna, Krishnaraja Yuva Balaga president Naveen Kempi, Rakesh Kunchitiga, Veena, Chakrapani and others were present.
