The city police will offer a week-long training session to civilians in handling a rifle, at the City Armed Reserve (CAR) grounds, here under the auspices of the Mysuru City Civilian Rifle Association.
Civilians enrolling for the training programme will not only learn about various prohibited and non-prohibited firearms, but also learn to handle a rifle and get an opportunity to use live ammunition, said Sridhara V, armourer, CAR. The participants will also be given a certificate at the end of the training programme.
Interested civilians, both men and women, aged between 18 and 60 years, may enrol for the course by obtaining a prescribed application from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, CAR, behind Race Course,Horse Park Road, Mysuru, between 10 am and 1.30 pm.
An application fee of Rs 50, a membership fee of Rs 1,000 and training fee of Rs 750 will have to be paid to enroll for the course, states a press release from the Mysuru City Police. The CAR is issuing applications from June 20, but the first batch will start as soon as 40 applications are received, an official said. Along with the applications, the civilians wishing to undergo training should also submit a certificate from the jurisdictional police station that they are not involved in any criminal case.
