Rotary Mysore Mid Town conferred its prestigious award Rotary Mysore Midtown Silicon Award for Excellence in Journalism on wildlife photographer S R Madhusudhan and journalist N Niranjan Nikam here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Rtn R Guru, former district governor, RI Dist 3180, lauded the role of print media in strengthening the democracy and paving the path for social empowerment. However, the electronic media by stressing on commercial programmes has not been focusing on programmes with a stress on society.
Except a few of the sting operations that brought to light several scams amounting to crores of public fund, he said investigative journalism had come to a grinding halt in recent times.
“The younger generation has failed to evince interest in the environment, its conservation and wildlife. The interest in wildlife would soon instill in them the need to conserve the forests and the environment per se. In this regard, wildlife photographs play a significant role,” said S R Madhusudan, wildlife photographer.
He further highlighted the significance of photographs as it could communicate more than words.
Expressing pleasure, Niranjan Nikam recalled his past experience and expressed gratitude for those who helped him in the field of journalism.
Members of Rotary Mysore Mid Town including Rtn S Raghavendra, Rtn M S Naveen Chandra and Rtn Dr Bheemesh were present during the event.
