Mysuru, January 30:- “Women should make use of the government schemes introduced for their empowerment,” said MLA L Nagendra.
He was speaking after inaugurating women cultural event at Kalamandir here, organised by Kannada and Culture Department on Wednesday.
“The role and contributions of rural women are immense towards folklore. It is the right stage to bring out the talent in women. The government is introducing various schemes. These schemes should reach the public. But women have not turned in expected numbers for this event,” he said.
“The invitation had the names of 24 public representatives including MPs and MLAs. But none of them has turned up. Why should such events be organised for the namesake if none of them comes? Officials should submit a report to the deputy commissioner regarding the absence of public representatives,” he said.
More than 10 members attended Rangoli Drawing Competition. Dollu kunita, pata kunita, suggi kunita, and other folk dance forms were performed.
Zilla Panchayat member Mangala Somashekar, vice president Gowramma Somashekar, taluk panchayat president Kalamma Kemparamaiah, director of Rangayana Addanda C Cariappa, joint director of Kannada and Culture Department V N Mallikarjuna Swamy, assistant director H Chennappa, Bannur Kempamma and others were present.
