Mysuru, March 27:- “We should survive and allow the nature to survive as well. We are not supposed to harm the nature in the name sustainable development,” said former vice-chancellor of the University of Mysore (UoM) Prof S N Hegde.
He was speaking at a seminar on ‘The role of higher education in sustainable development at Humanities Hall at Manasagangothri here, organised by Dr B R Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre and Researchers’ Association of UoM on Tuesday.
“We have water shortage these days. If the situation remains the same, we may have to purify sea water for drinking purpose. Education should bring out our potential. Not only knowledge, but the skill is also equally important,” he opined.
In-charge Vice-Chancellor of UoM Prof C Basavaraju, former vice-chancellor of Kuvempu University Prof K Chidananda Gowda, former vice-chancellor of Shivamogga University Prof P Venkataramaiah and others were present. (MR/GK).
