Mysuru, November 16:- The Mayoral election of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is becoming interesting day by day. Independent corporator, K V Sridhar has supported the Congress.
K V Sridhar who won as a rebel candidate of Congress was seen at the residence of former chief minister Siddaramaiah and said that he would support Congress.
But the fight for Mayor’s post seems never ending between JD(S) and Congress. Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh hinted of a possible coalition with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at MCC. He said that they were hurt by Congress in local body elections.
“We have asked for the Mayor’s post in the city corporation. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah says that the party with highest seats should get Mayor’s post. We have given power to Congress in BBMP. We need power in MCC. If they continue to behave like this, we too will have to move on. BJP leaders have already held discussion with us. Our corporators have not gone to the resort fearing Congress, but to discuss the matter,” he added.
Sa Ra Mahesh also held discussions with Narasimaharaja Constituency MLA Tanveer Sait and Congress leaders in resolving the issue of mayoral polls. A decision will be taken at 5 pm on Friday.
As both the parties are fighting for Mayor’s post, it still remains unresolved who would be the MCC Mayor. JD(S) leaders have decided to go with BJP if Congress doesn’t give them Mayor’s post. There are voices of opposition in JD(S) to join hands with BJP.
JD(S) leader Prof K S Rangappa said that the party should not join hands with BJP for Mayor’s post as it would send a wrong message to the people that too when there is a JD(S) – Congress coalition government in the state. He said that it was his personal opinion and he would request the party leaders to think over his suggestion. (KS, NGB)
