Sachin Vaze thought Mansukh Hiren was weak link, hence killed him: NIA sources

Prime News, National, Crime, Police, Mumbai, April 2:- Suspended Mumbai Police cop Sachin Vaze killed Mansukh Hiren as he thought the latter was a weak link in the Ambani bomb scare case, sources in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Thursday.

Mansukh Hiren, whose Scorpio car laden with gelatin sticks and a threat letter was detected outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai residence in February, was found dead in Thane’s Mumbra creek last month. Sachin Vaze and some others have been arrested in connection with the case.

Vaze feared the case was going out of his hand and that Hiren will spill the beans, NIA sources said on Thursday. Vaze has been arrested on charges of planning the planting of the vehicle near Ambani’s residence, Antilia.

But the NIA and Maharashtra’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have started to find cracks in ‘Hiren’s Scorpio was stolen’ theory. To save himself, Vaze tried to make Hiren take responsibility for planting the explosives, but when Hiren refused to do so, Vaze saw his plans failing, sources said.

“Vaze had used fake SIM cards and changed number plates on the vehicle. The Scorpio’s chassis number was also scratched to make it difficult to trace the owner of the car. But Hiran was picked up by ATS on the night of the car being found outside Ambani’s residence. Vaze asked ATS to release Hiren as the case was with his unit,” said an NIA official.

“Vaze realised that Hiren would break during interrogation by other agencies, making him a weak link. He refused to take responsibility for planting the gelatin sticks. Hence a plan was hatched to eliminate Hiren. The plan was to make it look like a suicide, but the body was recovered sooner due to low tide in Mumbra creek. And Hiren’s family knew that Vaze had earlier used the Scorpio,” the NIA official added. (MR, Inputs: Agencies)
