Mysuru, March 17:- “The facilities extended through various schemes should be provided to the safai karamacharis properly,” said M R Venkatesh, chairman of Karnataka State Safai Karamachari Commission.
He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar to create awareness among the safai karamacharis in under the joint auspices of Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar District Administration and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), at Kalamandir in the city on Saturday.
“We have conducted awareness programmes many a times. We have a role model ‘Karnataka government’ and this is the golden time for safai karmacharis. They have to know the programmes and schemes introduced for them. They should get their salaries before 10th of every month. I have visited Delhi and Punjab. Safai karamacharis there get Rs 11,000 salary, two litres of oil, two kgs of jaggery. In Karnataka, the safai karamchari gets Rs 17,000 per month salary. Karnataka is giving the highest salary to them,” he added.
Mayor B Bhagyavathi, Zilla Panchayat president Nayeema Sultana, Karnataka Safai Karamachari Commission members Meenakshamma, Gokula Narayana Swamy and others were present. (GK, NGB)
