Sanskrit language needs support: Scribe Sampath Kumar

Mysuru, July 23:- Sri Shivarathreeshwara Media Award by JSS Mahavidyapeetha was conferred on Sampath Kumar, the editor of the only Sanskrit daily of India, ‘Sudharma’ at a function held at Mysuru Press Club here on Monday.

“Sanskrit language is the mother of all languages. The Sanskrit language has to be protected and supported. My father told that ‘Sudharma’ paper should be protected and continued. We have done the same as he wished. Sanskrit Academy and Sanskrit Institution have been formed. But they are not helpful for students. Students stop learning Sanskrit after school or college studies. Sanskrit practice should be continuous. We are happy to receive this award on the occasion of 50 years of the newspaper. We had not thought that ‘Sudharma’ paper would make it to 50 years. It has made a name in state and national level,” he added.

“Government should encourage the Sanskrit language. Not only newspaper, but we have also released calendar in Sanskrit and books in Sanskrit,” he added.

Chairperson of Indian Science Congress and former University of Mysore (UoM) vice chancellor Prof KS Rangappa, chairman of Mysuru District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) CK Mahendra, secretary Lokesh Babu, Raghavendra, Jayashankar and others were present. (MR/KMR)
