Supreme Court’s verdict that former chief ministers are not entitled to free accommodation for life is a welcome news. In this country, every politician is a millionaire (may not be officially!). One can guess the worth of chief ministers. There may be exceptions which is very rare. They amass wealth in benami names and enjoy the benefits. Such persons getting free accommodation for life is a mockery of democratic values and principles. Once they become chief ministers irrespective of the tenure, they will live on public money. Politicians, when in power, manipulate the rules to suit their needs. Supreme Court’s decision puts a break on such largesse to undeserved.
