SC grants relief to Karnataka steel mills

Legal News, State, (New Delhi), December 14:- Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday, in an interim order, granted relief to many steel mills of Karnataka, and increased the cap on the production of iron ore from 30 million metric tonne per annum to 35 million metric tonne per annum for the A and B category mines in the state.

The apex court division bench, headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, and comprising Justice R Banumathi passed the interim order after hearing a petition filed by Samaj Parivartan Samudaya (SPS), through its senior Supreme Court and noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan and various still mills of Karnataka.

“We are increasing the cap on the production of iron ore from 30 million metric tonne per annum to 35 million metric tonne for the A and B category steel mines in the state of Karnataka,” the bench said in its order.
