To provide greater exposure to the participants on birds and environment, a nature walk for students was held at Kukkarahalli Lake in city on Sunday.
Hasiru Hejje and Karnataka Rajya Gnana Parishat jointly organised the nature walk for school students to create awareness and to emphasise on the importance of conservation of wetlands and water bodies.
The resource person for the nature walk was Manu of the Mysore Amateur Naturalists (MAN). During nature walk, students were enlightened about the necessity to conserve water bodies. Manu stressed on the importance of having a lake ecosystem in the neighbourhood and shared his thoughts on ways to protect it.
“The students were apprised of the importance of wetlands as habitat indicators. Students were told that if the habitats were healthy it would also support for more diversity and would enable farmers to irrigate their land.”
The students of Chaitra School, JSS high School, Rotary High School and others went on a nature trail to identify different varieties of birds and were thrilled to sight water crows, pelicans, cranes and other birds as they walked through Kukkarahalli lake area. They also sighted a crocodile in the early hours of their nature walk.
